POWER & INFRASTRUCTURE

Rack Builder

Simple RU layout planner with load totals.

This lightweight rack tool helps you test RU usage, free space and power totals early in design. Final elevations should still be completed in CAD/Revit.

Concept rack layout

Add equipment to build the rack stack.
RU capacity is only one part of rack design. Validate depth, rails, airflow, cable management, thermal load, weight, seismic requirements where applicable, service access and manufacturer clearances.
#ItemHeightPower
1 rack unit (1U) = 44.45 mm (1.75 in) nominal vertical mounting-unit spacing. The tool sums whole-number RU occupancy and entered equipment watts; it does not replace a coordinated rack elevation.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Example — AV equipment rack

The rack diagram stacks equipment by RU height. Keep ventilation, service access and manufacturer spacing requirements in mind when finalizing layout.

Source details

  • AVIXA published standards — includes F502.02:2020 (R2023), Rack Design for Audiovisual Systems.
  • 19-inch rack mechanical details are governed by applicable rack standards and manufacturer data; final rack elevations must use actual device dimensions, weight, airflow and service-clearance requirements.
